Looking for flexible and affordable childcare?
Want to save on up to 13 weeks childcare a year?
Call us now and arrange a visit - come and see why Ofsted say that "children are happy, confident and secure in this warm and welcoming pre-school."
Abacus is a pre-school situated in West Bridgford, between Lady Bay and Gamston. Our children learn through play and social interaction.
We provide activities that suit the needs and interests of our children and allow them to develop their personalities, talents and abilities, as well as explore and use their imagination, and grow in confidence and self esteem. Find out more about the activities we provide and the curriculum we follow on our Development and Learning page.

Settling In New Children
Children cannot play or learn if they are anxious or unhappy so our staff ensure that new children and their families feel comfortable at Abacus and benefit from what we have to offer. We tailor our settling in procedures for each new child to make sure that they feel safe and secure. This may include one or more visits before a child officially starts – this helps both children and their parents become familiar with our routines.
We know that children will come to us at different stages of development – nappies, toilet training and naps are not a problem! We work with families to devise individual routines for their child to make sure that all of those development milestones are achieved.
Partnership with Parents
Parents are always welcome at Abacus!
Our staff are always available for a chat at the beginning or end of a session. And we love to hear from you about your child’s achievements at home so that we can include them in their Learning Journey.
If you want to become more involved at Abacus, there are plenty of ways to do it. Parents are always welcome to join us for part or all of a session: this will give you a chance to see what you child does at pre-school and have a longer chat with your child’s key person. We also welcome parents who want to come in and talk to our children or lead an activity – perhaps to talk about their job, their culture or share a skill or interest.
Parents can also join our committee which makes sure that the pre-school is run in the best interest of the families that use it and helps to organise social and fundraising activities. Our Business and Finance Managers are employed to carry out the administrative and financial roles of the committee, so if you do join, you won’t find yourself committing hours of your time.
Transition To School
Starting school is a huge milestone in the life of a young child – and it's huge for their parents as well! Friends made at pre-school can often remain friends for a long time, and starting school with those familiar faces will often make the transition to school much smoother – for parents as well as children.
Our children go to a number of primary schools in and around West Bridgford, Gamston and Nottingham City, so whichever school your child goes to, it is likely they will go with friends they made at Abacus. Most of the children currently on roll at Abacus will go to Abbey Road Primary, Lady Bay Primary, West Bridgford Infants and Gamston Pierrepont schools.
